Own your yes, to achieve your goals this year
Do you make it to the end of your week feeling flat out exhausted by work and yet still haven’t managed to deliver on your commitments?
Your weeks have become so jam-packed full of tasks that you can’t spend any time on the important goals and priorities.
Saying yes to the wrong things has become a drain on your time, energy and mood.
In this episode, I’m going to break down a simple 3 phase process to help you take ownership over your ‘yes’ and your time. This method is easy to follow and will help you to plan out your days and weeks with intention and purpose.
Remember, you’re allowed to say ‘no’ and enforce your boundaries! You’re the gatekeeper to your calendar and don’t have to pick up every single task that falls onto your lap.
I’ll share practical tips and strategies for reclaiming your time and energy by planning out your non-negotiables first. This episode is perfect for you if you’re feeling pulled in every direction and yet not making any headway on your biggest goals.
Enjoy!
Topics We Covered:
[1:46]: As business owners, there are many things competing for your attention and time.
[2:14]: If you get to the end of the day feeling flat out but are still not delivering on your commitments, you need to structure your ‘yes’ and ‘no’.
[3:32]: Phase 1: Get crystal clear on what’s important. Understand your top 3 priorities in life and business.
[5:07]: If you’re constantly casting aside your priorities, there is something out of balance and needs correction.
[5:20]: 2nd step, know your goals.
[6:19]: The process I use for goal setting: Go forward into the vision, work out the annual goal, and then work out the quarterly goal.
[7:01]: Example of knowing what you want to achieve personally.
[8:07]: Your priorities are the themes in your life and your goals are the exact things you’re working on.
[8:17]: 3rd step, block out time based on your goals and priorities.
[10:36]: Time is similar to money, we’ll spend whatever we’ve got.
[10:50]: Story example of this philosophy (see link below).
[11:09]: Phase 2: Practicalities of making aligned choices. Ask yourself, does this task align with my goals and priorities? Every ‘yes’ comes at a cost.
[12:24]: 2nd step, let go of what no longer serves you.
[13:44]: 3rd step, consider what is the impact of saying ‘yes’.
[15:37]: Phase 3: The art of saying ‘no’. What is the way that feels comfortable for you?
[18:10]: You don’t have to put other people’s priorities above your own.
[19:43]: Busy doesn’t necessarily mean better.
