Why Productivity is not the answer!
Do you have a bottomless to do list that you can never get on top of?
Are you constantly wishing there were more hours in the day?
If only you could be more productive, then your business would thrive, right?
There’s an enormous appetite for more productivity in the small business world but is it really all it’s cracked up to be?
As ambitious business owners, it’s easy to get caught up in busy work but if you really want to start pushing the needle forward, it’s not about working more, it’s about working effectively.
In this episode, I talk about why productivity isn’t the answer and share some practical and actionable tools to help you be really effective in your business, not just busy.
I talk about the importance of simplification, creating intentional space, having a plan and how these things allow you to think more creatively, establish balance and focus your attention in the right places.
I also share 7 steps you can start implementing immediately to get you off the productivity hamster wheel and onto a clear path of where you can move your business forward.
Topics We Covered:
[1:25]: 60% of my listeners are exercising, 20% are driving or working
[2:10]: Do you actually want to do more or do you want to be doing more of the right things? The goal isn’t to be productive, but to be effective.
Why are we always trying to hack our productivity?
[3:55]: #1: The business model. It’s easy to be busy if you haven’t simplified your business.
[4:50]: #2: You like working. This was definitely the case for me and it’s easy to get caught up in busy work, not necessarily effective work.
[5:45]: #3: You have zero space. You need to make space for yourself to brainstorm, plan and spend time dreaming.
[6:30]: #4: You’re not really sure what to do next. With no plan, you get caught up in busyness.
[7:15]: Productivity is the aggregate for output. It’s about being effective and doing the things that yield the biggest results.
[8:00]: Sometimes you need to do high touch activities but these are also important
Steps you can implement almost instantly
[8:20]: #1: Be clear on what you’re trying to achieve. This ties into goal setting. Make sure you establish short term goals as well.
[9:15]: #2: Create a plan. This allows you to be more strategic in your business by reverse engineering your plan into action steps.
[10:10]: #3: Always be calibrating. Keep coming back to the plan and adjusting as you need.
[11:00]: #4: Look at your business model and systems. Pinpoint the inefficiencies to focus your time on items that will push the needle forward
[11:45]: #5: Make a conscious effort to do things outside of work. You will reap benefits in numerous areas.
[12:50]: #5: Build blank space into your work week and stick to it.
[13:30]: #7: Plan out your days and weeks. Be clear on what you want to achieve.
[14:20]: Guard your calendar. What you say yes to has a cause and effect.
[14:50]: Questions to ask yourself
[15:30]: It can be difficult to know where to begin, which is why my Business Accelerator Program might be helpful for you.
